Salman Khan Dabang to attend IIFA Event in Sri Lanka but protest from Tamils!

Salman Khan Dabang IIFA Event News: Members of the Tamil community staged a protest here on Sunday against Bollywood actor Salman Khan's proposed visit to Sri Lanka for International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony.

Khan is due to attend the 11th IIFA awards ceremony in Colombo from June 3-5.

"We tried to give him a letter which he did not accept and said that he will attend the award function, so we have burnt photographs here. In case if they attend this function we won't let his films to release here," said Sharvana, a protestor.

Earlier, the Tamil community held a similar protest outside actor Amitabh Bachchan's residence on May 11.

The IIFA 2010 is being viewed in Sri Lanka as a 'coming out' platform for a nation that is emerging from 30 years of civil war.
The Tamil film fraternity has also rejected the idea of an Indian film event in Sri Lanka, with popular Tamil actors Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Vijay, Ajith and Surya reportedly declining to take part in the IIFA.

Some 260,000 Tamil refugees, who fled fighting in the waning months of the war with the Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka and held in military-run camps, are in the process of a slow-moving rehabilitation.

Kareena Kapoor Hot like a Nutan's personality

Kareena Kapoor Hot Gossips: Eva Gardner, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Vivien Leigh… these are four of Hollywood's legendary beauties whom director Madhur Bhandarkar will use as direct reference-points for Kareena Kapoor's character in Heroine.

And to make Kareena's job manageable and easily accessible Madhur has prepared a 3-hour documentary on the quartet of Hollywood greats.

But where on earth are the female legends of the Indian cinema?

Nowhere! Woefully Madhur informs that he couldn't get ample or even scant visual material on the Hindi-Indian screen classical beauties to put into the documentary that he has put together for Kareena's ready reference. (If only all our directors were just as helpful we'd have more researched bio-pics).

Laments Madhur, “When I set out to put together a documentary chronicling the lives of the screen legends I was also simultaneously enhancing my own knowledge of them to make Kareena's character of Mahi Khanna more rounded complete and contemporary.”

In fact Madhur has just returned from a trip to Singapore where he discovered loads of invaluable footage on Hollywood greats.

Says Madhur excitedly, “For example take Vivien Leigh. Her stormy relationship with Sir Laurence Olivier is so eventful dramatic passionate and romantic. Unfortunately there's no valid and substantial footage on Madhubala or Meena Kumari revealing their relationship with Kishore Kumar and Kamal Amrohi, respectively.”

Madhur is appalled to note the lack of visual or even written records on our screen legends. “When a director wants to make a film about an Indian actor or about our movie industry where does he look for references? On the other hand there's no dearth of material written and filmed, on Hollywood's icons.”

For the want of a choice Madhur's 3-hour documentary portrays only Hollywood legends.

Says the director anxiously, “I do want Kareena to refer back to our great actresses like Madhubala, Nargis and Nutan (I think Kareena has elements of Nutan's personality). But I can only brief her verbally on our screen legends. It's really sad.”

Sadder still is the fact that the contemporary actresses have hardly watched the films of the legends so they have no ready references in their psyche either.

Kareena who's shooting with Shah Rukh for Ra.1 will be able to watch Madhur's 3-hour documentary only when she's free in September-October.

Says Madhur, “She's shooting for Ra.1 and Gol Maal 3. Once she's done she will watch the documentary repeatedly. I've chosen footage that represents Eva Gardner, Liz Taylor and others most tellingly. Her character Mahi Khanna is an actress of today, not of yesteryears.”

The shooting of Heroine has been pushed to December, so that Kareena would've time to study the 3-hour documentary carefully.

Madhur rules out rehearsals and worskshops to prepare Kareena for her biggest challenge. The only director who managed to get Kareena on the rehearsal route was Sudhir Mishra for her streetwalker's role in Chameli.

No one else would be able to extract the same concentrated energy from Kareena today. Not even Mishra.

Amitabh Bachchan biggest bollywood superstar in 'lands' in Barabanki soup

Amitabh Bachchan News: Barabanki land deals continue to haunt Amitabh Bachachan. This time focus shifts to the promised Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Girls Inter College that proved a non-starter, much to the chagrin of the villagers in the dusty little hamlet of Daulatpur, 40 km off Lucknow, despite a high profile inaugural ceremony held two years ago.
On Monday, additional chief judicial magistrate (fast track) directed Mohamadpur police to look into a complaint against the superstar filed by the village Pradhan Rajkumari Singh, who has tried tripping Bachchan second time within a year incidentally. In her complaint filed before the court, Singh has charged the actor with fraud, cheating and criminal conspiracy among slew of other serious allegations.

Bachchan is named along with six other accomplices, including daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Nishtha Foundation -- run by Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Prada and its secretary Devendra Kumar. Singh has demanded lodging of an FIR against the guilty. Taking cognizance of the matter, the court has ordered the police to probe the issue and submit its report on June 10.

The complainant accuses the actor of hatching a conspiracy to acquire land for the girls inter college by fooling the gullible villagers and gifting the same to Nishtha Foundation in an illegal manner.

Talking to TOI, Ranvir Singh, Rajkuari Singh's counsel, said that though the entire transaction regarding the promised girls college was fraudulent, the pradhan's objection mainly centred around the transfer of "gata no 711 and 793". Bachchan, he said, had given up his claims on the land in his affidavit filed before the high court in a bid to wriggle out of the land scam controversy.

"In 2006, the land was registered in the name of Vinay Kumar Shukla his `mukhtar-e-aam' (armed with power of attorney), who later sold the same to Bachchan even though he had ownership of only 1/3rd of the plot. Bachchan and others, says the complaint, was well aware of the reality still the land was transferred to Aishwarya Rai by a registered deed on September 22, 2009.

"Bachchan has been playing games all along," says Avnendra Singh, Rajkumari's son and the de facto pradhan. "Only proper investigation would reveal the extent of fraud involved in the transaction," he said and claimed that several MPs and MLAs contributed generously to the project from their official funds while others used the opportunity for getting income tax rebate.

Meanwhile, Rajkumari has no clue about her role. The illiterate village woman remained silent in the court room letting his son and lawyer take charge. Avnendra effectively ensured that she kept off media and whisked her away. Later when contacted, he claimed the pradhan had gone out of town on some urgent work.

Last October, she had approached the district magistrate, Barabanki, crying foul when Amitabh gifted the Daulatpur land to Nishta Foundation for setting up the inter college. Singh had pleaded that the land was already donated by the actor to the village council therefore the transaction was a forgery.

A five-member committee headed by SDM, Barabanki had probed the charges and give a clean chit to Bachchan on technical grounds even as the actor formally handed over the land to the foundation later on. And even as the local police begins investigations, a section of villagers have begun to question the motive behind "yet another publicity stunt by anti-Amitabh caucus".
