Her publicist told us that she was very much with her family and that she was livid at the story. Especially since the people concerned had called up her London number to get her side of the story; or so it seems. Well well well. Wonder how Sallu will react now? Unless Katz becomes a Veer herself instead and takes the law into her own hands. Likely? With this gal anything is, now you know why we love her so?

I have always taken risks - Priyanka

Her first recognition was the femme fatal role in Abbas-Mustan's Aitraaz and since then there has been no looking back for Priyanka Chopra, who is counted among the leading ladies of Bollywood today.

And the actress gives all the credit to her ability of taking risks. "I have always taken risks and done films which challenge me.

It's easier to do films which will definitely do well," Priyanka, who has been declared the 'Endorsement queen of 2008', said.

"Even Fashion with three women, which got me my first Best Actress award, was risky. Somebody has to push the envelope.

Before Fashion when four-five of my films did not do well, the media was quick to write me off," she said.

The 27-year-old actress said she has understood herself as an actor. "I was 17 when I started.

Now, I have learnt what films are about," she said before flying off to US to shoot Anjana Anjani with Ranbir Kapoor.

The actress said the "breeziness" of her upcoming film Pyar Impossible and the relationship between the geek and the beauty written by Uday Chopra appealed to her.

"There is a geek in every one of us...low confidence, insecurities. Abhay (Uday) thinks my character Alisha is the perfect girl but she is not. It is a matter of perceptions. The characters in the film make it interesting and different," she said.

When asked about her ill-health which made news during 2009, Priyanka said, "I was working on Fashion and had two releases lined up. It was hectic. Even though my parents asked me to go slow and take a break, I am the happiest when I am on a film set. I love my energy and working. I am high on life." The actress said she did listen to her parents' advice and took a week's break. Priyanka said 2009 was an important year for her in terms of recognition.

"Fashion got me accolades and appreciation for Sweety in Kaminey was a surprise," she said. The actress said while the success of Kaminey surprised her, the debacle of 'What's your Rashee?' broke her heart.

"What was satisfying that nobody told me that I was terrible in the film. I think the length was its undoing," Priyanka, who essayed 12 roles in the Ashutosh Gowariker film, said. To a question on carrying the entire film on her shoulders, Priyanka said she believes every film is hers no matter how big a hero is paired opposite her.

Priyanka also gave a glimpse of her future projects. Speaking about her forthcoming film Anjana Anjani with Ranbir Kapoor, she said it was a love story with a 'nice twist'. While Vishal Bharadwaj's next movie will be a dark comedy and will go on floors middle of next year.

I've only been in relationships - Sushmita Sen

She is one of those rare combinations of beauty and brain. A former Miss Universe, an actor, a single mother of two, and now a businesswoman…

Sushmita Sen is truly living life to the brim. The actor in conversation with TWF correspondent Sreya Basu in Kolkata.

What made you sign Dulha Mil Gaya After many years I am doing a film which I can claim as mine…this is my film.

It has been written keeping me in mind. My character is that of Shimmer…she is just as her name suggests.

She is very sparkling, energetic, independent…a supermodel…today’s woman. Everything about her is good, but she has no relationships in her life.

So through the journey of the film she finds that part of her life, which I think is true for a lot of woman today.

You get cynical about love and one fine day you find it. And it has been done in a very beautiful way in Dulha Mil Gaya. It’s a romantic comedy, which is not slapstick, but situational.

There is Fardeen Khan, Shah Rukh, Ishita Sharma in the film to. Don’t you think a multi-starrer can overshadow you? The director (Muddasar Aziz) has done a beautiful job with all the characters. But if you ask me, Shimmer is the best.

Does Shimmer gets her dulha finally? Of course, she gets her dulha. Shimmer has a dulha in her life…but she doesn’t like him. Then she realizes that in life there should be a place for everything…profession, relationships. And how she finds that is what the film is all about.

This is your second film with SRK and first film with Fardeen. How’s the experience?  I am very lucky…this is my second film with Shah Rukh; my on –screen chemistry with Shah Rukh is mind-blowing, I can bet on that one.

But this is my first film with Fardeen…he is as good a human being as an actor…his heart is as good as his looks. Very compatible, very royal…and he has been cast in the movie like that only. He is playing himself, just as I am playing mine…the director has made sure that the casting to be such that nobody has to ‘act’ too much.

Why aren’t we seeing SRK in the promotions of the film? Because it is not a frame-to-frame Shah Rukh Khan film; but again, according to me, Shah Rukh doesn’t have a guest appearance in the film either. It’s a character-driven film. Shah Rukh is not seen in the promotions of the film because he has a lot of other things going on right now and this is not predominantly a SRK film.

Now-a-days, many Bollywood beauties (like Bipasha Basu, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) are doing Bengali films. You speak the language quite fluently. But why don’t we see you in regional films? I keep saying that I am a non-resident Bengali, so I have my limitations. But thanks to my father (Shubeer Sen) I speak a lot of Bengali at home; I am doing that to my daughters as well.

I did a Tamil film right in the beginning of my career and I knew when people watch it, they will say: ’Wow a Bengali trying to speak Tamil…how lovely’ and all. But if I make any mistake with Bengali, people are not going to forgive me.

I have to know what I am doing because I belong to Kolkata and I belong to Bengal and unless a script and a role is outstanding and stands for like a national award, I will not dare attempt it. May be I am greedy, but I am waiting.

What about Rani Laxmibai?
What about it, man? It has been put in the backwaters for the time being. It’s a very expensive film and the market is down. It’s not the right time to make it. But God is great. While that film got stalled came Dulha Mil Gaya …in the right time.

We shot in the Caribbean and I got to meet the finest set of people there. That helped me to get over the trauma of not making Rani Laxmibai. But I will make it one day for sure. Inshallah.

How much is Sushmita Sen like Rani Laxmibai?
I don’t know about that. But I can relate to her immensely the moment I decided to make a film on her. If in my entire lifetime I can achieve what she did in her 29-year lifetime, I would say that I lived a fulfilling life.

You have a restaurant business and now you have got the Miss Universe franchise in India. Do you plan to become a full-fledged businesswoman in future?
(Laughs) I have never planned anything in life…I have always accepted what came to my life. My friend Rajat Dalmia is my partner in restaurant business and we have already opened one in Kolkata.

There is a night club and lounge as well and we are planning to take it further. Now, I have also got the Miss Universe franchise in India. It will be the winner of I Am She who will represent India on the global platform. I want to bring back the crown to India.

For that I want Miss India to be educated and intelligent. Language is no barrier and contestants can speak any language. But that doesn’t mean I will stop doing films. I am quite capable of multi-tasking.

You recently had a new addition to your family…
Yes, her name is Alisah and I am overjoyed… I am on the moon right now.

Is your elder daughter Renee comfortable with your three-month-old daughter?
Yes. Renee loves her. It’s a blessing to have both of them in my life. God bless them. I am going to Kerala backwaters with two kids…I was so busy this year that I missed spending time with them.

What is your relationship status right now?
In real life darling, I have only been in relationships. (Bursts into laughter) Better ask me when I am going to get married?

Will you get married?
Well, I will get married for sure.

When?
That’s not something that I can decide, it’s for God to decide. And when that day comes you are cordially invited.

Do you think marriage is important?
Absolutely. I think anything that you believe in, is important. Marriage is beautiful and I must get married, but for the right reasons, in the right time, with the right person…too many ‘rights’ here.

But you chose motherhood to marriage at 24. That means motherhood is more important than marriage?
I think both are important from their own standpoint. I don’t know about marriage because I am still single. But, motherhood is an overwhelming experience…in fact, you can’t put it in words.

Neha Dhupia on being sexy

1) Love your body and be confident about it. You don’t have to lose weight because everybody is thin. A full-figure is a priced possession. Embrace your curves.

2) Wear clothes that are fitted and form flattering. I love wearing colour and black. The outfits you wear have to make you feel sexy and good.

Know what your assets are and accentuate them, without being in your face.

I want to do a Bengali film now: Celina Jaitley

Celina Jaitley has already dabbled in Telugu and Kannada films and the former beauty queen now wants to work in a Bengali film, preferably one with Rituparno Ghosh.

"I have spent a lot of time in West Bengal and this is the reason I can easily associate myself with the place, culture and the language. I would really love to work in a Bengali movie because I feel they make very emotional and interesting movies," Celina told IANS in an interview.

"The way they weave stories is fascinating. They simply touch the human chord. I would love to work with Ritu-da (Rituparno Ghosh). This would be one of my targets for the next year," she said.

Celina is riding high after winning the best female actor award for her performance in the English film "Love Has No Language" at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) held Nov 10-20. The movie was a New Zealand entry at the film festival.

"This year has been so good. Winning this award has been an icing on the cake. These awards work as a motivation factor and help you perform better. As the role was a bit different from the conventional roles I do, it worked," said the actress.

"I have always seen that whenever I have attempted something different, I have been appreciated," she added.

"Love Has No Language", an engaging romantic movie, was directed by Ken Khan and stars New Zealand actor Ben Mitchell as well as Hindi film actors Rati Agnihotri and Kiran Kumar.

The 28-year-old, who has featured in Hindi movies like "Janasheen", "No Entry" and "Golmaal Returns", has seven movies in her kitty and is confident that she will make her presence felt on the big screen next year.

The model-turned-actress doesn't understand why people question her if she opts to do only a few movies.

"If Aamir Khan does one movie at a time, he is applauded but if Celina Jaitley chooses to do a few movies, she is criticised. Why such disparity?" the actress asked.

Apart from acting, Celina is involved with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and is also a gay rights activist.

"In my free time, I love to work for the causes I strongly feel for. All these things are no substitute for romance but they are something that I feel responsible for," she said.

"I choose to live my life fully and it deserves appreciation," she added.

The actress will soon be seen in movies like "Accident On Hill Road", "Run Bhola Run" and "Chai Garam".

Priyanka Chopra takes a red-eye flight

Hours before Priyanka Chopra flew to New York in the early hours of Saturday for the shoot of Anjaana Anjaani, she had to battle with a sudden eye infection.

On Friday evening, while at a photo shoot, the actress realised that her eyes were irritating her and turning red. The harsh camera lights only worsened her condition.

When it began disturbing her work, she contacted eye surgeon Dr Himanshu Mehta in panic. He prescribed some drops over the phone for temporary relief. As a result, she somehow managed to complete her assignment.

But immediately after the photoshoot, PC visited Dr Mehta's clinic at Juhu Scheme at 7.30 pm.  The eye surgeon confirms, "Yes, Priyanka did visit my clinic on Friday.

She was suffering from an infection which needed immediate attention as she was travelling later in the night."

After a complete eye check-up, the doctor prescribed her medicines that bought instant relief to the actress. Due to which the actress was able to be at the airport post midnight for her flight.

PC has been Dr Mehta's patient and always visits him for eye-related problems. In fact Priyanka's parents, Dr Ashok and Madhu, are friends of the eye surgeon.

Bipasha and John are still together

Despite the buzz about a break-up, the truth is that the two have moved in together. John Abraham and Bipasha Basu as a jodi were MIA for the longest time. The two stopped appearing in public together leading to speculation of a split. B-Town gossip mongers were buzzing that Bipasha had called off the relationship and that the two weren't a couple anymore. There was talk that the jodi had decided to give each other space and put love on the backburner. Post-New York, John went into hiding, while Bipasha was only seen during the promotion of her films. However, contrary to popular belief, we found out that the love birds are not only together, but are, in fact, staying in the same nest. According to a source close to the actress, John is now living with Bips at her Khar residence. Even though the move isn't permanent, the two spend a lot of time together. A source says, "Like any couple, John and Bipasha also have arguments but that doesn't mean they have split.

They did have a series of issues but those have been dealt with. A month ago, the couple decided to give each other some space and that's when John was seen going solo at many events. It was apparently Bipasha who made the decision that the relationship was getting stagnant and she told John that they needed some time apart."

When quizzed about the fact that she and John were having problems and had split up Bipasha laughs and says, "Guess we are living with each others ghosts day and night then! Thank you for informing me about this ridiculous buzz again. I am not a story and if people are talking, they have nothing else to do and can't be happy for anyone.

People thrive on negativity. Sorry to disappoint all those who are making this the talk of the town. Either I am getting married or breaking up! Amazing! Year after year -- the same stories." John Abraham remained unavailable for comment but on Tuesday afternoon (a day after we asked both of them about splitting up) we saw the couple attending a college event.

Priyanka Chopra - 'Pyaar Impossible' all about people's looks: Uday Chopra

Actor Uday Chopra plays a geek in forthcoming "Pyaar Impossible", for which he has turned scriptwriter too, and he says the film is all about how the looks of the lead characters impact their lives.

"The look is very important for the film because it's all about outward appearances. 'Pyaar Impossible' is about a guy who looks like this (a geek) and a girl who looks like that (a star). Will they ever be able to get together? So the whole film rests on looks," Uday told IANS.

"So we thought let's have characters who look so unachievable that a girl like this would never look at him and a guy like this would never be able to achieve the girl," he explained.

Uday says he wrote the good-looking female lead's part keeping Priyanka Chopra in mind. "When I first thought of the subject of a beauty and a geek, I knew that this is a kind of character Priyanka would be able to play brilliantly. She was in my mind while I was sketching the character," he said.

He admits that the story has some slice of his real life experiences, but clarifies that it's neither autobiographical nor inspired by international reality TV show "Beauty and the Geek".

"It's not really autobiographical. Everyone, mostly in his or her school or college days, falls for someone unachievable, whom they can't express their feelings to. It happened with me as well. I borrowed a few of those moments but the main storyline is fresh and the idea didn't come to me from the reality show 'Beauty and the Geek'," said Uday.

The actor made his Bollywood debut with his brother Aditya Chopra's "Mohabbatein" (2000), but it was Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan who hogged the limelight. Later, he featured in "Mujhse Dosti Karoge" (2002), "Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai" (2002), but got noticed in "Dhoom" (2004).

He was also in "Dhoom 2" (2006) but it was Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai who walked away with the credit for the film's success.

The idea of "Pyaar Impossible" was lying dormant in Uday's mind for a long time and after "Dhoom 2", he decided to pen the story as he had some free time.

"I didn't know that I would ever make a film out of it. I had the idea so I started writing the story. There was nothing else to do except a few behind-the-scene jobs, which didn't take much of my time," said Uday.

Asked what stopped him from directing the film, he said: "My primary goal was to make a movie with the best of my ability. It was not that I have to make the film, I have to write it, I have to produce it and I have to direct it. So at that point I thought it's better I don't direct it because I had to focus on too many other things."

Talking about co-star Priyanka, Uday said: "It was a great experience working with her. I was really apprehensive at first because I had never worked with her before and didn't know her well also. Once we started the film, I was not only surprised but also genuinely bowled over by her. She is not only a good actor but also a great team player."Apart from writing the script, Uday has been managing the new media division of Yash Raj Films.

"I was writing the script and at the same time I was looking after the Internet department and the entire new media division of Yash Raj Films...When I came on board, I decided we must get into all the portals - be it iTunes or Google. I was basically behind the scenes doing that until this film started," said Uday. "Pyaar Impossible" is slated to release Jan 8 next year.

Hrithik, Aishwarya ke GUZAARISH mein Monikangana scared, Mori effect??

Hrithik Roshan, the super hero of bollywood who plays the character of a paraplegic in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming flick ‘Guzaarish’ opposite gorgeous beauty Aishwarya Rai, has landed newcomer Monikangana Dutta in trouble due to his past escapades with Mexican beauty Barabara Mori.

So much so that Hrithik Roshan’s wife Suzanne Khan keeps visiting the sets of Sanjay Bhansali’s film to prevent any possible closeness developing between her husband and hot bong model Monikangana Dutta.

Sources close to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali say that Monikangana was feeling so uncomfortable with the presence of Suzanne Roshan that she requested Bhansali to excuse her from enacting the sensuous sequence with Hrithik. However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali refused to oblige her as the scene was an intrinsic part of the story.

Sources from the set of ‘Guzaarish’ say that Hrithik Roshan and Monikangana Dutta were required to give a sensuous hot sequence as they are playing husband and wife in the film. To get a real feel to the whole sequence, Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted Hrithik Roshan and Monikangana to spend some quality time together before giving the final shots in Goa.

It is this quality time therapy of Bhansali for the realism in scene that created problem and Hrithik’s wife Suzanne Roshan became extra vigilant in guarding her husband. The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Suzanne was in no mood to take the risk again by allowing Hrithik Roshan unrestricted freedom about his heroines.

[28 Dec 2009]

It may be recalled that Monikangana Dutta is a hot and happening model in Bengal, who caught the eyes of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and he cast her opposite Hrithik in his new flick ‘Guzaarish’. Though the film has Aishwarya Rai Bachchan too, but she plays the character of a nurse to paraplegic Hrithik Roshan.

However, in the later part of the flick Hrithik Roshan falls in love with his nurse played by Aishwarya Rai. Before Bhansali’s flick, Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan had created magic in Yashraj Films’ ‘Dhoom’ and Ashutosh Gowarikar’s ‘Jodha Akbar’. Their on screen chemistry was terrific in the both the flicks but latter could not do much at the box office.

But, Hrithik Roshan’s wife Suzanne has problem with Monikangana and not Aishwarya Rai, as only the former have a sensuous sequence with Hrithik. The buzz doing he rounds in the industry is that Suzanne has become more suspicious due to Hrithik Roshan’s past closeness with Barbara Mori during the making of his earlier flick ‘Kites’.

I am not doing an item number with my six-pack abs says Emraan Hashmi

From Shahrukh Khan in ‘Om Shanti Om’ to Aamir Khan in ‘Ghajini’, majority of actors today are concentrating hard on getting the 3-letter word- ABS. The trend has pretty much spread like wildfire and while very recently it was the turn of an unsuspecting Shahid Kapoor to ‘discover’ that he too had managed to develop 8 pack abs for ‘Chance Pe Dance’, now Emraan Hashmi has acquired quite a few for himself too.

Emraan agrees though that getting his 6-pack abs for his upcoming film ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai’ wasn’t really an easy task.

“First and foremost the entire timeline to do so was quite short. Milan (Luthria), the director of the film, gave me just three months to prepare and believe me, that’s not really a comfortable timeline”, rues Emraan, “I was also shooting for ‘Tum Mile’ at the same time and in that film, I had an entirely different look. I had to maintain that as well. This is why I had to continue slogging working out during the shooting of both the films. Those were tough days.”

No wonder, Emraan isn’t planning to keep the 6-pack abs for eternity. “No ways”, he reacts instantly, “I have missed a lot in life due to this entire working out. As I mentioned earlier, first and foremost I have to get back to my original self for my wife’s sake. She likes me the way I always was. Secondly, I want to again begin eating all that she has to offer. She cooks well but I could hardly eat since I was really conscious about my food intake. I had to live on low carb diet. There is an optimum state that one can reach in building a body like this but the toughest part is to maintain it.”

Even though the film is about underworld and requires histrionics more than body show, can one expect a song and dance sequence on the lines of ‘Dard-E-Disco’ a la Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Om Shanti Om’? Given the fact that in Bollywood it is not really a tough task to write a scene at the last moment stating that it was a ‘demand of the situation’, it would hardly be a surprise if Emraan’s bare body is splashed all over in days to come, especially the ones leading towards the film’s release.

“Come on, the film is about underworld in the 70s. How can you expect me to perform in an item number there? As of now, that’s not happening for sure unless Milan decides to do something special around this”, laughs Emraan.

Salman launches unsung heroes contest on his birthday

Salman Khan  Apparently inspired by Aamir Khan, Bollywood star Salman Khan has launched a nationwide hunt for unsung heroes as he turns 44 Sunday to connect with the masses and also promote his forthcoming period film "Veer".

The hunt - for young men and women who have performed heroic deeds which the nation doesn't know about - is one more effort by the actor in bridge-building and improving his image.

"Lately Salman has been going out of his way to connect with the masses. The idea to launch a contest on his birthday to search for unrecognised heroes came from Aamir Khan's recent connect-with-masses Bharat Darshan which he undertook as part of the promotion for '3 Idiots'," said a source close to the actor.

"People close to Salman advised him to find a similar point of connectivity with the common man for Salman's forthcoming film 'Veer'. And what better occasion to show his affinity to the masses than his birthday?"

Confirming Salman's plans to search and celebrate the lives of unsung heroes from all over the country, "Veer" producer Vijay Galani told IANS: "You've heard correctly. Salman is launching a contest to find real-life unsung heroes.

"Since he has played the hero so often on screen, he feels real-life heroes deserve to be brought out of anonymity. We'll be going to the remotest corners of India to select these unknown heroes. Finally one of them will be given the 'Veer' cup personally by Salman at a function in Mumbai."

The much-talked about film is about the bravery of a Pindari soldier and speaks of bravery exemplifying the courage of every oppressed Indian fighting for justice and independence. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film features Salman in never seen before avatar along with newcomer Zarine Khan.

Former Miss UK Lisa Lazarus too plays an important role in the film that also stars Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff along with Sohail Khan and Bharat Dabholkar.

Katrina’s crazy about Twilight star

The minute Katrina’s eyes fell on Pattinson she got hooked to the Twilight quartet. “I went and bought all the four books Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I couldn’t put them down. I’ve been racing through the adventures of the hottest vampire Edward Cullen for the last one week. I finished reading three of the Twilight books in less than four days. Now I’m into the fourth. I just can’t get enough of him.”

And now Katrina wants to meet the real Edward Cullen. “You don’t understand. This is like an obsession for me. I can’t get Robert Pattinson out of my head. I see the love of my life in every object that moves or doesn’t move. I’ve never felt this way about any man before.”

Now a meeting between Bollywood’s blistering babe and Hollywood’s blood-thirsty heart-throb is discreetly being arranged. Though Katrina is not talking about it, her representatives are in touch with Robert Pattinson’s agent. It’s been made known to the global superstar that Bollywood’s eminently desirable Katrina Kaif would probably die of longing if the meeting doesn’t happen.

Says the besotted actress, “Obviously, I can’t stand under his window to get his attention. So yes, the meeting has to be more formal. He says he’s single. But I don’t believe him. That’s what they all say.”

Vidya to play feisty Sabrina in movie on Jessica

Vidya Balan is set to experience a dash of reality. The actress is all set to play Sabrina Lall's character in director Rajkumar Gupta's next film, No One Killed Jessica. The UTV production is based on model Jessica Lall's murder.

"Vidya has been finalised because she fits the role perfectly. But I don't want to talk much about the casting as it leads to speculation. Right now, I can only confirm Vidya's presence but without going into the details," Gupta said.

Sabrina, on her part, is confident that Vidya will do a great job. In fact, she has already met Gupta to discuss the film and "found him to be a nice guy". Also, Sabrina is quite assured about the right interpretation of Jessica's case.

"Vidya is a beautiful girl and I have faith in the makers. People are generally worried about how Hindi films will portray real incidents but I am fine. Gupta and me discussed the film and Jessica's life for several days," Sabrina said.

Gupta will start shooting next February. The Aamir director feels after finalising Vidya, it will be easier for him to cast others. "I will announce the other actors soon. We're working on it," he said.

In the meantime, the Ishqiya girl is getting ready for her first "biographical role". Reportedly, she wanted to play Sabrina the minute she heard about the role and takes it as a challenge. She also plans to meet Sabrina shortly.Jessica's sister said she is yet to get a call from the Paa actress, though.Since Jessica's murder, Sabrina had fought to get her killers punished.

Gupta's film is "not completely based on Jessica's case", she said.Vidya apart, No One Killed Jessica has been making a lot of news over its star cast. Initially, Kareena was approached to play the slain model but she reportedly turned down the role, stating that she "couldn't connect with the character". She has reportedly said she "can't do a bit part in an offbeat flick just to prove that she can act". A few days ago, Rani Mukerji's name started doing the rounds for Gupta's film. It was suggested that Rani will play a fiery journalist. Sources said UTV was negotiating with her on her fees.

Gupta made the critically acclaimed Aamir last year. He has been working on his next film for a long time. He said his movie was not about just Jessica's murder. "It is not a documentary, it is fiction," he added.

"I was struck by the headline of a newspaper, No One Killed Jessica after all the accused in the Jessica murder case were acquitted by a court judgement," he said.Jessica Lall was shot at a bar in Delhi in 1999.

Deepika Padukone's plan of funding underprivileged sportsmen dashed

Deepika Padukone's plan of funding underprivileged and needy sportsmen has been dashed momentarily.

The actor had to put this philanthropic initiative on the backburner as she is overworked and has five back-to-back releases next year.

However, she promises that she would revive the project in 2011.A source says, "Deepika has been very busy of late. She has got a lot of work lined up next year too.

That wouldn't give her any time to concentrate on this project. So she has decided to pull the plug for the time being."

As this project is Deepika's brainchild, she is very protective about how it should begin.

The source adds, "She is not doing this to garner attention. She has a sporting person's soul in her and having seen the plight of needy sportsmen from close quarters, she thought of helping them out.

Deepika wants to sustain the project and fund it if possible throughout her lifetime. She has been silently scouting, observing and researching about good talents from across India for a long time."

Confirming the development, Deepika says, "Though the project is on the backburner now, the research work will be on as we are looking to start it from 2011. Next year is a very busy one for me. So I don't want to start this project just for the sake of doing it. I don't enter into things to come out of it easily and so I will take time to roll out this project. But when it starts, it won't stop."

Sushmita Sen talks about 2010 edition of the 'I am She' pageant

Fifteen years ago, Sushmita Sen charmed an entire nation with her intelligence and poise after she brought home India’s first Miss Universe crown.

The statuesque model-turned-actress is now all set to help groom young girls for the international pageant as host of its India preliminaries - 'I am She'.

Sen, who has earned a reputation for herself in the Indian media for being unconventional, spoke to Reuters about.

I am She', her adopted daughters 'Renee' and 'Alisah' and why she would like to adopt many more times.

Q: Why do you think India is not doing well at international pageants? What do you think is lacking in our beauty contest aspirants?

A: The reason you have had so many winners from South American countries, like Venezuela, Chile or even Brazil, is that they take this contest with the same seriousness that we take the Olympics.

It’s a competition for them, on a global platform. The whole country backs it. Even 'Miss Universe' must feel the pressure, because at a venue in the Bahamas, you can only hear Spanish because the whole of Venezuela has flown down for the event. A lot of the nations that come for the event, big or small, who don’t take this so seriously, suffer because their girls never get a natural push that the other countries get, just for sheer involvement in the event.

But we are going to change that, because we know inherently that nobody can make as much noise as we can. We are the loudest. This should be the kind of victory that your country calls to congratulate you for. Q: Your pageant is also associated with social causes. How important is celebrity status in the glamour industry?

A: When I was a kid in school if you showed me a social message on TV, it would bore me. But if it was integrated into a Santa Barbara, or a beauty pageant, I would be hooked. So for me glamour, sports are very important to be able to express the support for all the causes that one feels strongly for.

And there are so many of them. So we have tied up with five NGO’s for five causes that we strongly believe in for the 2010 edition of the 'I am She' pageant. Q: One of the NGO’s that you have chosen is 'Baalasha'. Tell us the reason behind the decision. A: That is an obvious one. 'Baalasha' made my first experience of becoming a mother so painless, and at a time when I was only 24.

At that time India didn’t allow single parents, especially actresses who were single, to adopt. Baalasha could have made my life really difficult, but instead they went out of their way and made it really easy for me. There are so many kids out there who just need to go home; they seriously need to go home. I feel that I will adopt many more times, because I feel that whatever is my capacity, I must do.

Q: You have just adopted another baby girl, Alisah. Tell us about her. A: She is adorable! She is so beautiful and Renee is almost like a mother to her. I was just waiting for the courts to make it legal for you to be able to adopt two girls, and the minute that happened, I jumped at the chance. She is three months old and I just want to ask everyone to pray for her.”

Q: What does it take to be a good businesswoman? A: To be a good businesswoman, most importantly is that you have to be aware. You can do no good unless you are aware. Awareness is of many levels. Once you choose a process, you have to trust it; you have to trust the team you have chosen, because they are your biggest strength. I would say invest in your people. Oh, and always watch your costs!

Vidya's one of the boys

Vidya Balan is glowing with the compliments pouring in for her superlative performance in R Balki’s Paa.

She may be a foot shorter than both her Bachchan co-stars, but when it came to the histrionics, she matched Amitabh and Abhishek perfectly.

Now she’s channelising her energies into Ketan Maroo’s Ishqiya where once again she is it pitted with two versatile talents  Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi.

Talking about her sensuous role in this robust, earthy, love triangle, the diminutive actress says, “I play a village belle.

Yet I’m fully aware of my sexual charms and within the four walls of the bedroom, I’m unapologetic about using my guile and charm.

Vidya says quality work like Paa and now Ishqiya has made her realise that if she is patient, the right roles are bound to come her way.

“Once again I have as many advantages as I had when I did Parineeta,’’ says the actress. “My filmmakers have realised that given an opportunity, I will not let them down.’’

The coming year is an important year for Vidya. She starts the year with Ishqiya and then moves onto Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Chenab Gandhi. “The decision to do fewer films is entirely mine,’’ says the actress who is now super-confident that when it comes to her career, she will not make one false move.

On the personal front, it is rumoured that almost all her heroes be it John Abraham (Salaam-e-Ishq), Shahid Kapoor (Kismat Konnection) and now Arshad Warsi (Ishqiya) are attracted to her. “Rubbish,’’ she flails her hands and says.

“In fact, I think none of my heroes even treat me like a lady. I’m treated like one of the boys. My heroes back-slap me and we share a few laughs and jokes. However, I don’t think any of them is attracted to me. If they were, I would have noticed.’’

Well, well...so even as the rumour mills continue to buzz about Vidya past romances with John and Shahid, the actress herself has rubbed her slate clean... and is looking forward to her knight in shining armour putting in an appearance in 2010. What should one say — Halleluah!

She speaks about her comfort level with King, Ooo! It’s always great to work with Shahrukh. She even added that Karan, Sharukh and herself have given some big hits to the industry and she is desperately looking forward for the movie to hit the screen this January.

They have a spark, a unique one which makes them special even today. The ever young couple has always blasted the screen off with their evergreen romance on screen. It’s always very pleasant to see Kajol and Shahrukh romancing on screen.

We just have to wait for the release of the film. Here’s wishing the whole unit all the very best for the film.

Katrina celebrates Christmas in pain

Katrina Kaif has decided to join her family in London for the annual Christmas-New Year vacation, in spite of being in pain after her minor surgery last week.

The healing process after the surgery is not even half-complete. But the actress, who was recovering quietly at her Mumbai home, flew out of.

The city early Wednesday after getting a reluctant go-ahead from her doctors at Breach Candy hospital.

Wincing in pain, she said a few hours before departure: "The pain will remain for a while. But the process of healing is on.

I got my doctor's consent in Mumbai and I've another doctor in London who's fully aware of my condition.

The doctors said the pain will be the same in Mumbai or London. And as long as I'm very careful about not exerting myself I'll be fine. So I'm off."

Katrina was depressed earlier in the week, thinking she wouldn't be able to join her siblings in London because of her medical condition.

But later she decided to go for the vacation. Said Katrina: "I can't exert myself, can't dance around or be boisterous.

But that's okay, because our family is in any case not the dancing type. I just want to be with my sister's little boy, take him to the toy stores in London and buy him everything he wants."

Katrina returns to Mumbai in the first week of January, hopefully fully healed. "Luckily I've a doctor in London who knows how to look after me. So basically I'm just moving into a happier state of mind by being close to the people I love. That would help me heal quicker...Wish me luck."

New Delhi Cast: Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, Omi, Jaaved Jafferi

If anyone else had made ‘3 Idiots’, there would have been an immediate outpouring of hosannahs, because the ability to wrap an engaging story around an important message is a forgotten skill in most Hindi cinema.

But this is from Rajkumar Hirani who brought back joy and sparkle to the movies. Both his ‘Munnabhai’ films are superb entertainers that you can watch any and all the time: I would, if I could, put both on a continuous loop, and swoop in for a taste whenever I felt like a dose of upbeat.

‘3 Idiots’ does not do as much for me. The emotional truth that shone through both the ‘Munnabhai’ movies doesn’t come through strongly enough: the artifice caused by a forty-something playing a twenty-something colours the film. Are there no capable twenty year olds in B town?

It’s based, very loosely, on Chetan Bhagat’s smash-hit ‘Five Point Someone’, which is about three friends who bond for life over shared blood, sweat and tears, in the way only those who go through professional colleges brimming with brutal deans and hellish exams, can. The kind of pressure-cooker college where kids who can’t handle the heat leap out of high windows, or hang themselves from fans in their hostel rooms.

Ranchodas Shyamaldas Chanchad aka Rancho (Aamir Khan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) and Farhan Qureishi (R Madhavan) meet on a freshers’ night when new arrivals are being introduced to the ways of an elite engineering college.

Undies are being yanked down when Rancho walks in, escapes to his room and devises a devilish way out of the humiliation about to be heaped upon him. From then on, Rancho becomes their lodestar, both as an official getter-into-trouble, as well as the guy who will get them out of it. And then one day, just like that, he’s gone.

Rancho’s old mates set off on a quest, accompanied by another batchmate (Omi), whose extreme competitiveness and slyness many will recognize from their time at tech institutes. This throwing of the switch, from a coming of age flick to a road movie, unsettles the rhythm, and leads to an overstretched half. This, or that, or both?

Somewhere along the way, almost like an after-thought, the ravishing Kareena Kapoor shows up, to execute a skilled-if-not-madly-novel song-and-dance number with Khan. And because she plays a doctor, she also gets to save lives. She’s not a strong plot point, though, and you miss her effervescence when she’s sent out to bide her time till her next scene.

Hirani has never been afraid of tears, abundantly on display in both his earlier tours. Here, every single character, including the stone-hearted dean Viru Sahastrabuddhe, or more aptly, Virus (Boman Irani, more cipher than character) is given a wet-eyed moment.

The result is a flood, literally, which leaves the second half awash. I happily cried along with Munna and Circuit; here, I caught myself waiting for the deluge to end. The laughter in some places is forced, as is the effort Khan puts into appearing half his age—in the widening of the eyes, the shuffling of the gait, the loose, wrinkly jeans.

Madhavan and Joshi come off better, especially the latter, who is absolutely first rate. But the one who really leaves a mark is the always-chasing-after-success Chatur, the southie nerd played by newcomer Omi. The film is meant to be a trenchant attack on an educational system which creates robots, and ambitious parents who insist their child do something they do not want to, even if it means losing the child to despair and death. It makes the point, but not as magically as it could have, given Hirani’s unique gift of building extraordinary moments out of the ordinary.
‘3 Idiots’ was good in parts, but it didn’t blow me away.

Wincing In Pain Katrina Kaif Leaves For Family Vacation In London

The healing process after her surgery last week is yet not even half-complete. But Katrina Kaif, recovering quietly from surgery at her Mumbai home, stubbornly decided to go and join her family in London for the annual Christmas-New Year vacation, which she had promised herself for months now. Katrina flew out of Mumbai early Wednesday morning after getting a reluctant go-ahead from her doctors at Breach Candy hospital. Wincing in pain she said a few hours before departure, “The pain will remain for a while. But the process of healing is on. I got my doctor’s consent in Mumbai and I’ve another doctor in London who’s fully aware of my condition. The doctors said the pain would be the same in Mumbai or London. And as long as I’m very careful about not exerting myself I’ll be fine. So I’m off.”

Katrina had gone into a depression earlier during the week when she felt she wouldn’t be able to join her sisters and brother in London because of her medical condition. On Tuesday after visiting the doctors Katrina and her mother took a decision. Said Katrina, “I can’t exert myself, can’t dance around or be boisterous. But that’s okay. Because our family is in any case not the dancing type. I just want to be with my sister’s little boy take him to the toy stores in London and buy him everything he wants.”Katrina returns to Mumbai in the first week of January, hopefully fully healed. “Luckily I’ve a doctor in London who knows how to look after me. So basically I’m just moving into a happier state of mind by being close to the people I love. That would help me heal quicker. Wish me luck.”

The 44-year-old actor has put on a disappearing act and is on a seven-city tour to promote the  Aamir reached Varanasi on Friday and traveled through the narrow lanes of the old city to search his mother, Zeenat's birthplace in Teliyanala area, near the Prahlad Ghat at the banks of river Ganga.

Wearing a simple shirt, his face covered with a muffler, Aamir hid himself in old sunglasses. He stayed in the city for three days in the disguise of an old man. The morning before leaving the city, Aamir reached the Teliyanala mohalla in the Kotwali area to visit his mother's birthplace Khwaja Manzil, which is in a dilapidated condition. "Was in your amazing city. It was a very emotional experience for me," Aamir told PTI before leaving for another destination. The rickshaw-puller Ramlakhan Paswan, who drove the actor through the bylanes of the city, said, "Aamir got really emotional when he found the birth place of his mother.

Kabhi sadak pe car bhagaoon, ya chuk chuk gaadi ko aazmaoon, chahe main jaise bhi jaoon, maa ke aangan mein raat bitaoon."

Amrita Rao kicks Rani out of her home

Recently Amrita hired the services of a new maid, Rani who apparently was a crazy fan. Amrita already has two maids, a spot boy, a personal assistant and a driver at her ready disposal but hired the services of an additional maid for her mother who requires help frequently with the household work as the other employees are busy tending to Amrita's needs.

This maid apparently was an avid follower of hers from Rajasthan who had come via the reference of a neighboring building's resident. She used to intently watch each and every move of Amrita's whilst she was at home which caused a lot of unrest to Amrita as her mother's needs seemed to be sidelined. Infact once Amrita's family member caught her looking into Amrita's personal wardrobe and trying on few of her garments when no one was at home. At one instance Amrita who really loses her cool was seen getting angry but her heart melted when the maid began crying and stating how poor she was.

Aishwarya's past is suddenly confronting her!!

Bachchan Bahu Ash seems to be having bad experiences with her past.  The more the actress wants to forget, the more she runs into it! First she bumped into Salman Khan on December 17; and then she ended up sitting next to Vivek Oberoi for the Mumbai police event, 'Jashn 2010- Dhamaka Bollywood Ka', at the Andheri Sports Complex on Saturday. Understandably, Vivek was shocked to see the seating arrangement. At first he flatly refused to enter the function after coming to know that his seat was next to Aishwarya.  However he finally agreed after the organizers did their best to convince him.

According to sources, there was space only for one person to sit between the exes.  At first it was Asin who was occupying the seat; but had to leave for her performance just as Vivek entered.  Realising that Vivek was only a seat away, Ash was clearly uncomfortable and soon got fidgety. To help matters, designer Manish Malhotra came and sat between the two to ease the tension. After a while Vivek sensed that there was trouble and got up and left. Both Vivek and Ash remained unavailable for comment.

Trust Shah Rukh Khan to do everything in style. On Friday evening, the maverick superstar booked an entire screen at PVR Juhu for a special screening of Avatar at 10.30 pm for his family especially his kids and their friends and his close pals from the industry. He was joined by members his clique Suzanne Roshan, a bespectacled Rani Mukerji, Sanjay Kapoor with wife Maheep, and Bhavana and Chunky Pandey. Abiding by her image of a diva, Gauri Khan, though dressed in a white blouse teamed with distressed denims and sports shoes, looked casual yet chic.

Showstopper Farah Khan and SRK, who were once joint at the hip, seem to be growing apart after the director signed Akshay Kumar on for her next film. Farah, instead of joining her old buddy, came for an earlier show. Though the two bumped into each other at the entrance, neither was uncomfortable and greeted each other with warmth.
